E-SmartCamp (e-vidya Padhao Badhao Mobile App)

In view of the prevalent pandemic during the academic year 2021-22, as a part of E- SmartCamp, SAF developed the e-vidya Padhao Badhao Mobile App in partnership with CGPL. The Mobile App was designed especially for providing Life Skills education and teaching basic concepts of English for the students of Classes 6th, 7th and 8th. The outcome expected was improvements in basic English concept, vocabulary and grammar rules and learning of age appropriate life skills leading to holistic development of the students.

  • Schools18 Mandvi Zilla Panchayat schools, identified jointly by CGPL and Sai’s Angel Foundation.
  • StudentsApproximately 1200 students of Classes 6th, 7th and 8th (2021- 22 Academic Year).

However, as the content was also available in Hindi in addition to Gujarati, it could be accessed by any Indian student in any part of India.

Offerings:

  1. Life Skill education with hands-on activities & quizzes.
  2. Experiential structured activities focusing on exploring, discussing and evaluating.
  3. Remedial work in English with activities and worksheets.
  4. Value Education and General Knowledge.

Delivery:

  • Videos (30 to 40 minutes) with lessons, quizzes, homework worksheets, General Knowledge and Value Education were prepared in Gujarati and Hindi.
  • Every day one video and worksheet were to be uploaded in the Mobile App.
  • Videos could also to be delivered through You-tube and WhatsApp.
  • School wise e-vidya WhatsApp groups were created in coordination with school principals.
  • Downloading of Mobile App by students was facilitated.
  • Daily video links for Life skills and English were sent as per the time table.
  • Twice a week, live classes for Life skills and English were organized to clarify the concepts.
  • E-copies of worksheets of each day were sent to the students through the Mobile App. Hard copies of English worksheets were also provided to each student.
  • Module wise quizzes were uploaded in the Mobile App and responses were discussed in the WhatsApp groups.

Monitoring and Tracking:

  • A dedicated team of SAF on daily basis tracked the progress of the students through field visits and calling the students.
  • The tracking was done by receiving individual completed worksheets via online, daily home visits or calling of students for feedback and addressing any logistic difficulties, motivating students to participate in the live class and conducting sessions in schools whenever possible.

Key Achievements:

In spite of many different challenges due to pandemic of COVID-19, the SAF team was able to reach out to a large number of students. App usage by total 3021 Students

  • 1200 students of 18 schools of Kutch District were covered under the programme. However, more than 1600 students took benefit of the programme.
  • There were 45000 You-tube views.
  • It was observed that in English, students scoring between 75-100% of marks increased from 5.3% to 18.4% and those scoring between 50-75% increased from 26.3% to 44.7%.
  • There have been clear improvements in terms of communication skills, creativity and speaking English in students.
