Teachers’ Training (Project 3R) Program

SAF, usually in partnership with the District Education Office of the respective district, implements a three month program of Teachers’ Training (Project 3R) program in primary schools to bring about qualitative improvements in the delivery of education in such primary schools. The focus of the program is on addressing the difficulties being faced by students in the basic 3R – ‘Reading, WRiting & ARithmetic’, with emphasis on Reading and Writing. The program is based on the proven methodology designed and practiced by Sai’s Angel Foundation in its various projects, which include timely achievement of set goals, differentiated teaching approach, play-way method of teaching, conducting regular tests and individualised tracking of each student.

At the start, a one-day/two-day workshop is conducted for the teachers on pedagogy, use of Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) and innovative methods in teaching and tracking the performance of students. This is followed up by regular visits to schools to handhold the teachers in implementing the methodology. The entire program is tracked for performance against goals.

Major features of the Programme are

  • Workshops of teachers included training on use of different TLMs, play way method and each-one- teach-one method. For example, for Maths use of game-based TLMs is demonstrated.
  • The basic test papers for Maths and Language are provided for assessing and tracking the performance of students in reading, writing and solving arithmetic problems.
  • The first baseline test of students in Maths and Language are taken at the beginning of the Project, followed by monthly tests at the end of each of the three month of the Project.
  • During the three month period of the Program, staff and teachers of Sai’s Angel Foundation personally visit the schools and carry out the tracking in Maths and Language learning.
